  • How to connect sensor to cloud

Connecting a sensor to the cloud is very general term. There are 3 stages of data transmission. As sensor generates data, it sends to connected microcontroller. Respective controller sends the data to gateway from where it is connected. Micro controller can be connected with wire or wirelessly to the gateway using RS232, CAN Bus or Bluetooth, ZigBee, Wi-Fi.

Gateway can connect to cloud using different IoT Protocols like MQTT, CoAP or HTTP RESTfull or using Ethernet. Every sensor is bit different from other sensors, that’s why we will take one example of ACS712 Current sensor (Hall effect sensor).

We will connect current sensor to the Thingspeak/Emoncms which are IoT platforms used to collect data and display data.

Firstly we need to implement sensor on live power line, where we want to measure current in series as shown in fig.
