How to disable SELinux permanently in Linux?
When you install the RHEL, the SELinux features or service is by default enabled in enforcing mode, due to some applications on your system may not support this security mechanism. so to make such application function normally, youhave to disable the SELinux. We can set the SELinux as either enforcing, premissive or disabled.
First we check the status of SELinux on your system, by running the following command
If we run the sestatus command it will show like below
In above screen by deafult it will be in enabled.
If we run the getenforce command it will show like below
If you run getenforce command it will show only surrent mode of SELinux.
If we want to disable SELinux permanent we have to do some change in /etc/selinux/config file, edit the file by following command.
# vi /etc/selinux/config
Change the SELINUX=enforcing to SELINUX= disabled like below.
then save and exit the file, and reboot your system for effective changes and check the status like shown below.
Finally the SELinux is disabled permanently.
